How A Spa Can Help You Combat Dry Skin

Posted on: 5 March 2021

During the winter, your skin can take quite the beating with cold temperatures and dry air, leaving it feeling more dehydrated and rougher than ever. If you run your hand across your face and it feels rough and like it's going to peel, then you may need to visit a facial expert or esthetician. During your appointment with an esthetician, they will take a closer look at your skin and then determine what treatments are right for you. To help treat dry, dehydrated skin, they may recommend one of the following options.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is an intense exfoliating treatment that is used to target the top few layers of the skin to help it slough off. During winter months, a lot of dead skin can buildup on your face which can result in an uneven complexion, dryness, and irritation.

During this treatment, a device (almost similar to a wood sander, but much smaller) will be applied to the skin and will work in a circular motion to help exfoliate the skin and get rid of any build-up that is there; in turn, this leaves you with smoother skin. Because a small disc is being applied to the skin, it will be able to exfoliate much deeper than an at-home treatment like a scrub. Although your skin may feel a bit raw and red after your treatment, it will reveal smoother, healthier skin in the process.

Hydradermabrasion treatment

Hydradermabrasion treatment is something that your esthetician may recommend for dry skin, and they may actually recommend this treatment in conjunction with microdermabrasion. During a hydradermabrasion treatment, your esthetician will work to cleanse the skin, exfoliate the skin, and then hydrate the skin with a multi-step process. By using a combination of tools to help actually extract impurities from the skin and then exfoliate the skin (sometimes using something similar to microdermabrasion), patients will notice visibly smoother and softer skin after a treatment. Then, at the end of your hydradermabrasion treatment, your esthetician will help to moisturize your skin with a series of different creams and serums.

While microdermabrasion and hydradermabrasion treatments may end up costing you more than a traditional facial would, the results may be much more hydrating and beneficial. If you want to learn a little bit more about how you can hydrate and moisturize your skin, reach out to some estheticians and spa in your area and they can get you set up with one of these treatments.
